Our Story
We didn’t set out to build a finance app.
We were just trying to stop arguing about groceries.
A letter from Madison & Mohamed
Like a lot of couples, we approached money very differently. Mohamed is a software engineer and a long-term planner. He loves goals, systems, and knowing exactly where we’re headed.
I’m the opposite. Money made me anxious. I avoided it whenever I could. Not because I didn’t care, but because it felt overwhelming. There were accounts, bills, budgets, goals, and numbers everywhere. The more complicated it felt, the more I wanted to look away.
That became a problem. We’d set a grocery budget for the month, but neither of us knew exactly what the other had spent. We’d go over budget, get frustrated, and end up having the same conversations over and over again.
The real issue wasn’t money. It was uncertainty.
I never felt like I had a clear picture of where we stood or what was actually okay to spend.
Money wasn’t the problem
We just needed a way to be on the same page. Banks could tell us how much money we had. Budgeting apps could tell us where we spent it. But neither could answer the question we were asking every day:
What can we safely spend right now?
So he built something for us. Not a spreadsheet. Not another budgeting app. Just a simple way to see all of our finances in one place and know exactly what was safe to spend.
Something unexpected happened
For the first time, I felt in control. Not because I suddenly became a finance expert. Not because I memorized budgets or spent hours reviewing transactions. Because I finally understood where we stood. Every purchase had context. Every decision felt less stressful. The anxiety started to disappear.
What surprised me most was that it actually changed my habits. Seeing our safe-to-spend number in real time made me more mindful, more intentional, and more confident with money than I’d ever been before. Not through guilt. Not through restriction.
Through clarity.
That’s why we built deezbills
We believe most people don’t need more financial information. They need more financial confidence. They need to know what’s safe to spend today while staying on track for the future they’re building. That’s what deezbills was created to do.
To replace uncertainty with clarity. To get couples on the same page. To help people stop avoiding their finances. And to make money feel a little easier.
Here’s to spending today and building tomorrow.
